Cinemagraphs

In our Digital Imaging 2 class yesterday, we had a lot of fun playing with Wacom tablets (check ’em out!) and creating cinemagraphs.  Cinemagraphs are pretty cool.  You start by shooting just a couple seconds of video, and then you work with it in Photoshop, isolating one piece of the picture you want to show movement while the rest of the frame stays motionless.

For some examples of pretty well done cinemagraphs, you can click here.  I haven’t quite decided if these things are kind of creepy or really cool.  I think somewhere in the middle, probably, but it’s also somewhat dependent on subject matter.

Anyway, our class went out and “filmed” our own and then we each edited to make it work.  Here’s how mine turned out:

Note: If it doesn’t start moving automatically, try clicking on it to bring it up in a new browser window.

You’ll probably be seeing more of these from me.  We’ve an opportunity to make a couple for extra credit, and I’d like to play around with these a bit more.  Hope you enjoy! (apologies if you come from the “totally freaked out by this” camp.)
